I made this model after one of my Russian "friends" called me one day while manning a 2S7 Pion and showed me a video of him firing it. That was all the motivation I needed to start modeling it.
I almost finished the entire thing—except for the gun breech—but it's still one of the coolest pieces of artillery I've worked on.
The 2S7 Pion is a self-propelled artillery gun developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s. Armed with a massive 203mm howitzer, it can fire nuclear-capable shells up to 37.5 km (23 miles). Designed to destroy fortified positions, it was one of the most powerful artillery systems of its time. Despite its age, upgraded versions like the 2S7M Malka are still in use today.
